Clean up is underway at an old tobacco warehouse in Greenville. Crews are removing underground fuel tanks and removing any hazardous dirt.
The clean up is funded by an EPA grant.
The Imperial site once served as a tobacco warehouse. It burned down in 2008 and has not been used since. Although it was not included in this year’s budget, city leaders hope to one day revitalize the area to continue Uptown’s growth.
“Looking at some potential options on how the site can be better utilized. It’s a really good site, large, I want to say six-, seven-acre site in the center city so it’s got real potential,” Tom Wisemiller said.
Once the site has is cleaned up and Wisemiller says they will look at options for what to do with it including potential private investors.
