Twelve residents of Maywood, all diagnosed with cancer, have filed a class-action lawsuit against a company that sterilizes medical equipment for allegedly leaking, over decades, a toxic carcinogen that, the residents say, has led to a cancer cluster in the small Southeast LA city.

The residents are suing a company called Sterigenics.  According to the complaint, the 12 plaintiffs are suing the company over a processing facility in the adjacent city of Vernon for allegedly releasing, without notice, tons of ethylene oxide into the surrounding area.  Read more.
