21,000 customers exposed to contaminated drinking water in Southwest Michigan

Drinking water in more than 21,000 Battle Creek-area homes and businesses carried elevated levels of a toxic contaminant over the last 12 months on average, city officials said.

The spike, ironically, was caused by efforts to prevent contamination, officials said.

More than 21,000 homes and businesses in Battle Creek and the surrounding area are impacted — 18,783 in Battle Creek, 1,704 in Springfield and 937 in Emmett Township. Read more.
