Assessing the Risks of Project Management Information Systems

A Project Management Information System (PMIS) is intended to facilitate and expedite project team communication and promote timely sharing and review of project documents. Members of the project team (owner, architects, engineers, other design consultants, general contractor/CM, subcontractors, and suppliers) are granted access to and permissions within the PMIS based on their roles and responsibilities on the project. Procore, Newforma, Autodesk Construction Cloud (which acquired PlanGrid), and Basecamp are PMIS platforms used in the architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) industry. While the general intention of use is common, each system caters to somewhat different needs and has distinct features.
