Bay City going after EPA grant to cleanup former scrapyard for development

Bay City officials have applied for a $200,000 Brownfield Cleanup Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to address contamination issues at the former Surath Scrap Yard, a piece of property they say could be home to Bay City’s next big development.
A year ago, the Bay City Commission approved an option agreement to have the RiversEdge Development Corp., a public-private nonprofit group, purchase the 15-acre property near Liberty Bridge for $1,000. The nonprofit is marketing the former scrapyard to developers looking to bring jobs, housing and new business to town. Read more.
