A St. Joseph company will pay a $64,804 civil penalty for a series of Environmental Protection Agency violations at its manufacturing facility in St. Joseph, Mo.
Albaugh, which makes and packages generic fertilizers and herbicides, agreed to pay a civil penalty for a series of hazardous waste and chemical risk management program violations, the EPA said.
According to an administrative consent agreement, the EPA inspected Albaugh’s St. Joseph facility to determine its compliance with federal hazardous waste and chemical risk management requirements.
EPA noted several violations at the facility, including its failure to conduct a hazardous waste determination on a 265-gallon tote that had been on-site for almost two years. The inspection also found that Albaugh failed to label, close and properly store hazardous waste. Albaugh’s facility also had deficient safety practices, according to the EPA, including an inadequate contingency plan.
The 2009 inspection found that Albaugh failed to implement a risk-management program.
Albaugh is based in Ankeny, Iowa.
