Century-old buried storage tank the culprit in Huron River oil leak

Authorities are “very confident” an underground storage tank filled with fuel oil that was found buried at a Wayne County steel factory has been causing the ongoing oil leak in the Huron River.

Earlier this week, excavators unearthed a 10,000-gallon tank at Flat Rock Metal Inc., a steel processing factory located next to a river side channel where an oil leak discovered on Feb. 21 prompted emergency containment measures. Read more.
