Data Center Construction Linked to Wastewater Contamination in Cheyenne

The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities (BOPU) has traced a discharge that introduced the bacterium Cupriavidus gilardii into the city’s wastewater treatment system back to Goat Systems LLC, a contractor for Meta’s data center campus under construction in the High Plains Business Park. Frank Strong, the engineering and water resource division manager, informed the Wyoming Tribune Eagle that the contamination was detected during routine testing in February.

Cupriavidus gilardii is typically found in various natural environments, including soil and water, and while it generally poses no serious threat, it can behave as an opportunistic pathogen affecting individuals with compromised immune systems. Read more.
