EPA modifies Durham Superfund site cleanup of soil, water contamination from manufacturing plant

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has revised portions of its decades-long project to address widespread soil and groundwater contamination at the Durham Meadows Superfund Site.

The decades-long federal project centers on two manufacturing facilities in town.

Volatile organic compounds were detected in residential, commercial and school water supply wells in the early 1980s, according to the EPA, which placed the site on the National Priorities List in 1989. Read more.
