Leaking sewer pipes may have spread hazardous chemicals from a former dry cleaning site in downtown Napa to nearby properties, including the location of a recently opened middle school, according to claims filed against the city of Napa and the Napa Sanitation District.

Hagstrom Properties, which owns the former Dow Cleaners site at 1634 Clay St., filed a claim Dec. 5 seeking damages the could far exceed $10,000. A related claim, filed by Blue Oak Middle School on Oct. 11, alleges contamination at its campus on 1455 Polk St. delayed construction and required costly environmental safety measures. Read more.
