Two companies in Massachusetts have reached a settlement with the office of Attorney General Maura Healey, agreeing to pay a total of $185,000 over allegations that the companies illegally discharged polluted industrial stormwater into local rivers.
UAVE LLC in Norwood and Cargill, Inc. and Salt City, Inc. in Westfield have settled allegations that the companies violated the federal Clean Water Act by discharging industrial stormwater into storm drain systems flowing to cold-water fisheries. The settlement will include $130,000 paid to local watershed associations to improve water quality in the vicinity of the facilities, Healey’s office said in a statement Tuesday, and $55,000 to offset the costs of the attorney general’s enforcement efforts and for future monitoring of the companies’ compliance.
