The owner of 20 Jiffy Lube stores in Santa Clara and Contra Costa counties has paid a $130,000 fine for violating environmental regulations, the Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Jiffy Lubes owned by M.C. LLC failed to mark and label tanks and containers that store hazardous waste, stored waste without lids, failed to submit manifests concerning the transport and disposal of such waste and other safety and emergency preparedness violations, the district attorney office says.
As part of a settlement with prosecutors, the owners will implement a staff training program, an internal compliance program, hire an environmental compliance specialist and allow inspections at each of the stores. Jiffy Lube cooperated with the investigation.
The settlement was the result of a joint investigation by the Santa Clara County hazardous materials compliance division, the Contra Costa health service hazardous materials program and prosecution by the Santa Clara and Contra Costa district attorney’s offices.
