Radioactive dust contamination worries trigger testing in Venice, Illinois

A spokesperson for the Illinois Emergency Management Agency told 5 On Your Side that they are conducting radiological surveys and soil sampling in one Metro East community.

The testing is taking place near the former Spectralite factory in Venice, Illinois.

According to the Department of Energy, the site was used for uranium extrusion and rod straightening to support the Atomic Energy Commission’s needs in the 1950s and 60s. Read more.
