Surfside residents alarmed airport didn’t advise them of possible contaminants

Maddequecham Valley Road home tested positive for dangerous levels of potentially-carcinogenic contaminants called polyfluroalkyl substances, also known as PFAS.

“My children are bathing in cancer- causing chemicals,” Wofford wrote to the Airport Commission. “My children are brushing their teeth with cancer-causing chemicals.”

It is believed those chemicals got into her water from the flame-retardant foam used during firefighting exercises at the airport. Read more.
