‘We’re nonstop chasing leaks’: Closed library had previous construction issues

In a press conference Tuesday, city leaders declined to assign blame for the water intrusion that has led to the closure of Norman Public Library Central.

The library, which was built in 2019 for $39 million as part of the Norman Forward initiative, announced last week that it will remain closed for five months as repairs and mold remediation take place. Representatives from Pioneer Library System, Norman Parks and Recreation and the group contracted to remediate the mold provided an update.

On Nov. 14, library staff found what looked like mold on a ceiling tile. They contacted the city, who immediately requested testing. The ensuing investigation revealed mold on every level of the library. Read more.
